WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

( this is a massive collection of various positive messages I have received though out the years. It is a lot to read, but I keep them here to show my gratitude for the thought and time it took for these folks to give me so much inspiration. I treasure their thoughts.)

WOW Frankie!   I must say that when you had your Open-Mic
Night at Infusion Tea, on Aug 8th, I had a blast.  I was very inspired and haven't stopped

writing since.
Sorry, that I didn't spend more time with you at TASTE, I had really wanted to get to know
you more.
Take care, keep up the outstanding work, and Keep Rockn' like you do.  :)

who i believe in today

following in suit to what i said last night about finding someone or something to believe in when you are extremely alone, mr frankie of apartment E wins today. go pick up an orlando weekly and read about this dude if you don't know what's up. i'm inspired that there's actually hope for sticking around this wack ass city even if people are always leaving, are always in the pursuit of cool, don't have time for you, are jealous and want to take you down for making a difference, are ramming you with their suvs while you're just trying to ride your bike. ya know, there really is light out there. so there ya go. until i am no longer alone, i will post what inspires me not to give up.
~peace

Hey Frankie!

Thanks very much for your e-mail, it does feel nice when others out there in the community that are doing the same things you are notice your work.  That made my whole day.
I went to Karen Bowden's opening last night- she had a better than average turnout and even sold some work.  She was very happy, and for me it was good to see that the local artists are recognized and not shadowed in the perceptions of "high" or "fine art".
I gave up my own web magazine 8 months ago because it was up for 3 years and I just didn't think that the community was catching on, or that people didn't care.  It was too much work to do by myself- so I just let it go- with the intent of reviving it at a later date.... so becoming a press agent and writing about artists again feels great!!!  The artists still give my writing a big applause and they are thrilled to have me write about them, so I guess it's nice to know that I haven't lost my spark for it.
I was getting depressed and starting to feel as if there was no hope for the culture in this town, but after your message and seeing Karen Bowden's reception last night, I know I'm not alone in the fight, and that others still do appreciate the true value of artistry.
Talk w/you soon!  I have yet MORE press releases to write...!

Thanks Again,

I love you, brother. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well, and that you are continuing to do what you have been called to do with our family. You are like a patriarch :). You are always in my heart and mind, and I hope that I can see you very, very soon :).  Patriarch is the word, my brother. Patriarch is the word :). You are indeed respected and loved, not just by me, but by an entire community and family of people who owe their success to your dedication.
You are doing well...as I said before, what you were called to do. Don't ever stop :).

Hey Frankie,
I just looked at Apartment E's webpage, listened to the interview and read the story for the first time (I have no excuse for why it took me so long) and its nothing short of amazing. I'm sure you hear all of this all the time, but I'm going to tell you anyways. I'm so inspired and I cant wait to finally get involved somehow. I know you don't want to get too into the personal stuff, but I've been going through a rough time for a while now- getting better, then falling back into it- all at my own fault and I'm thinking and hoping that this might just be the medicine I need to find who I am, on my own, independently again. I need to reconnect with that creative part of me that got left behind and let go of everything that's been holding me down. I need an outlet, a creative oasis and a new turn in my life. I can't believe everything you've done and gone through to make Apartment E happen, but thank you. I haven't even been there yet and I can tell how much good its doing for those surrounded in it and I cant wait to join them- just to be in that environment and no one could have been touched by it if it weren't for you.  I'm also extremely proud of you and to know you...you've gone through so much and you managed to find the light to pull you back. That's amazing. I've already told a couple of my friends about it and they love it as well...they're jealous that they are out of state and can't physically go with me. I guess I've babbled enough, huh? ha ha. I hope to hear from you and see you soon.

I have one eye in Toronto and the other eye in Orlando. You will always have my support for Apartment e and for the arts in Orlando.
I wish you all the best and good luck!

Hi Frankie,
Thanks for your kind thoughts (as always) and thanks for your vote of confidence. The truth is I am working to make this site as self-sufficient as possible as it is just a very small part of what I do here at the City. I also write the exhibit pr, am one of two artist liaisons, hang city-owned art throughout the city, help curate the smaller galleries and oversee the department's brochure (and that's on a quiet day!) I am hoping to get the site to a good initial spot because I only work here 14 hours a week and it will need to stand on its own as soon as possible. With that said, I personally feel that your site is vital to the arts community and I very much hope that I will be able to get your link on our site. In regards to appropriateness I understand you completely, which is why I'll let others who have been here a lot longer be the ones to make that judgement call. However, apartment e is covering so much ground that isn't getting covered here or at Red Chair, so I'm hoping that we can at least acknowledge it on our links page. I'll be sure to keep you posted. And thank you for linking our site for so many years!

Hi Frankie,

Thank you for having me in your site. I'll send you some images.
Your words of support are so important. I worked so hard to make my dream alive.
No money involved here, no help, only few great people who joined to me to this project ,and a very big ambition of mine.
As an artist who came from a different country and culture everything is even much harder.
But...we speak the language of art, love and peace, and I want to believe that is language is universal.
Frankie, I honestly don't remember talking to you last night. SSSSoooooo many people. It was amazing. Because I'm aware to what you try to do in this town, I would like very much to meet you and have a more quiet talk. (and more than that...put a "face" to your name. You know artists how they are...must visualize everything...:)
If you're interested, please give me a call this week

1st Annual Bicycle Ride to the Winter Park Art Festival

I'm doing a small write-up on the Winter Park Art Festival and I think this bike ride would make for a fresh angle. Can you tell me a little about what you're doing? Where does it start? What's the plan when all of the riders get there? Can we look to see apartmentE involved in more events like the WPAF? I also e-mailed Carl Knickerbocker about this. If at all possible, please get back to me before 2 p.m. today. Thanks again!

Hey there Frankie!
I'll be at Lake Eola this weekend for the Art and Living Show on Saturday and Sunday.
O.V.A.L. has 3 booth's goin' on and that's where I'll be.
Also..LANGERADO 2007!
Yep! My third year there!
I've come to the truth that art is life and I can't ever get this time back again.. so I'm very proud to say that I will be showing my work at LANGERADO this year with my favorite guy's...my son Keegan, his best friend Christian and Savi..his cousin.
These guy's have supported me for year's and we have grown so much together as human's.
I am such a blessed woman to have three talented young men supporting my work.
Sometimes it's not about the money..you can't buy time.
Of course..these three say that this is going to be "my year"!
Faith.
Why don't you come on down?
Sunday's day schedule ROCK'S!
Check out the website.
Peace out.

so i am a huge Kerouac devotee and found your page through the Kerouac house page.....myspace can be a bit of a vortex pulling you in further and further if you don't stop it. but sometimes it's like a lightbulb where it takes you.
anyway, cool page.....sometimes i think about having my own little book of dark poems, but then wonder if my stuff just plain stinks....ahhhh the human frame of mind, always never quite sure of anything really. time is really the marionette pulling the emotions one way to the next. then back again. one day or one hour you can be superman. then the next, a hermit crab afraid of the slightest noise.

i like your picture......

Sandra Heltebridle  sandrah812@bellsouth.net

I love your site Frankie you are so positive, I've spent so much of my life being negative and bitter that forget what that's like. Actually I don't think I got to be more positive at all until I started home schooling my only (and staying that way) child. I'm a bit of the paranoid personality type and I've always had this "love/hate"
relationship with the scene. I love to express myself and perform and get out there, but I live in sometimes passive/aggressive mistrust of a scene that I feel is sometimes too conservative and overly insincere. I love the idea of being cool and interesting, but worry about those ideas over clouding what people are actually trying to say. I do believe in having a sense of humor and not taking yourself too seriously. That's why when I wrote the opcc my biography I described myself as an "attention whore", poking fun at the things I do not like about myself. I have had serious brushes in the scene with the future owners of the back booth and Amy Steinberg, vitriolic extremely cruel acerbic letters I wrote which were published in print form in the Weekly.(late 90's) I wrote for two years for the UCF independent, brought up the fact that George Bush's grandfather Prescott Bush was a Nazi sympathizer. I wrote about the election in 2000 being Jim Crowed by throwing out black votes and eventually pissed off a young lady by making fun of her article on vibrators and got thrown off the paper. That editor now writes for the Weekly and coincidentally my event for The June Cleavers did not get published. (that's funny) In the 90's when I was in my early 20's I wrote poems about people I didn't like and performed them at open mike nights. (immature I know) I would get in drunken arguments about politics and put down kids who lived off their parents. I left home at 17 with less than a $100 dollars I would say, I worked my way through college with no help! Which was true. I am an only child with no relationship with my parents, so I have a small chip on my shoulder about it. When my first love left me I tried to commit suicide at 21 spent some time is a psych ward. I've probably made more enemies than friends, I'm incapable of sucking up but I am kind when I genuinely like someone. I want to get gigs and generally do because even people that don't like me are drawn to me, except at Stardust where I was told never to come back, so I told them to change their name to Starbucks and be done with it. I want to make friends and be liked but I have a hard time doing it. I fear acceptance as much as rejection, rejection is more comfortable and easy to deal with for me. The punk world seems the perfect medium for that. You're site is positive and genuine and the same time, that is rare.
It lacks pretension and seems to sincerely care about artists and their contribution to the community. I never got over the loss of my favorite coffee house, and coffee houses are no longer the places they were in the early 90's, I find myself sometimes as an artist out of time and place. A curious anachronism to the people around me . Is there a place for real artists in this world is the ultimate question, do we have any use? You seem to help answer that. Maybe you should come to our gig at Uncle Lou's on March 30th, with Vomit Pop. Michelle and Chuck of Hidden Records will be there, they knew me 1995, they even told me their first discussion was have you ever heard Sandra Monday. I never thought I was the type of person to start a family but Genevieve is my savior, she loves me and sees a happy person behind this angry, cold, bitter exterior. Wow Sandra Monday is a mom that is scary people are probably saying. I would like to be a great artist, but first I must be a better person and your site gives me hope that the true scene has not died, merely transformed.

Thanks for That,

Sandra Monday

P.s feel free to share these stories, I was an asshole, not proud of it, but can't change..part of the history

 Hello Sandra,
Your letter touched me more than you know.
Damn... You get it... And I like you have never tried to get people to get it..Believe me.. I don't have and never have changed for anyone,.
We are true artists... You make me feel alive not only when I see you perform BUT when I even think of you and your expression in life..
Nobody can ever create what I think is at the core of "real artistS" there are a lot of fakers...
I don't have time for them... That's why I work so hard at just being me.. With my actions, my site, and my creative expression..  Thank you for seeing some of this through my site..  I have for the time being .."Lost"the pages of the site..
The site that had those great pictureS of you.. But I do have copies of them. So the "words" link is not lost for good.. Just temporaily "out of place".,, like me sometime   I thank you from the bottom of my creative spirit and heart...
You are genuine, and excuse me....  incredible....

You people are alive; all who showed up and supported the artistic community of Orlando! This gives me hope that Truth, Beauty and Love; prevail over Pretention , Superficiality and Backstabbers! This was the perfect gig, look for more gigs to come at a bohemian home such as Uncle Lou's. Uncle Lou does not try to be cool, he simply IS. Note the difference, maybe I am naive, but I feel the beginnings of a Renaissance here in O-town. People are tired of the trappings of sub-culture and long for a revolution of the local spirit. Let the song of real human beings heard over the moanings of the Zombies!

Amen

Keep working on your skills, keep learning about life and people - especially those around you that are different than you are, and keep exploring ways to mix those artistic skills with what you are learning about people and life to create work that some one will encounter in a way that causes them to think or feel more than they are already thinking or feeling - and will in the end help them be more human and a better citizen because of that.

Hey, I am excited by what you are up to so bring it on..............
COMMA wants to support your  initiative and you are welcome to have a talk, event, curate an exhibit with us WHAT EVER!.

We are totally on the page with your ideology as some of those you probably know( Rick Jones, Hummel, CHad, Brad, Isaac,  Doug R., Elizabeth, Megan Jason, Liz Watkins and other New minded arts peoples) will testify to!

To date we have gotten no institutional support.........the support comes through the artists and collectors who buy art and get it that we exist to prove Central Florida artists  hold there own against the International art scene.

Call me to arrange to come by for a sneak preview of Grady Kimsey's new work; the guy is an icon!  Almost forgotten until now............last month  we had Isaac Hammerling,a 23 year old and now a 79 er!  Unlike anywhere else, We are inclusive; we mix it up and look at everybody's work in order to know it all so we can provide it to anyone looking for that certain work of art that speaks to them.

I want to support what you are about.

Great(art)fully Yours

Frankie,

First off I want to say that you are a very uplifting person to be around and in the few times we have gotten together you have really made an impact on me in staying focused. It is hard like we discussed last night to always continue on our creative paths when the world we live in (our world) does not seem to understand. But one thing I have learned is to never give up. There a lot of man made forces at play and we have to learn how to deal with them when they arise. But in a nut shell Amy and I both appreciate your honesty and your passion for what you have done since starting ApartmentE. So hey we are really on the same page. Now I agree the next move is to start meeting on a regularly bases. Once a week would be fine. Since you have off Wednesdays. We can meet on Tuesday nights. Let me know what is best. I can't agree with you more about feeling the timing is right. I have always said timing is everything. Amy and I will be putting more information together soon for the show on July 30th and will present it to you. We look forward to working with you and helping create the bigger picture together. Thanks for sending us your thoughts and please continue to do so. Also I agree with possibly having Katie getting involved with us. Maybe you can set that up and have her meet with us. Thanks again!

Hi Frankie,

I just heard Katie’s interview with you on 90.7 & I just want to tell you that you rock, brother. I really have been meaning to make it out to Austin’s for your show, and perhaps this is just the motivation that I needed. I’ve been much preoccupied getting this café of ours off the ground & haven’t had much time for social-ness, so hopefully I can stop working long enough to have some fun.  I’d love to support you with any special events that you might want to plan - we just changed our hours to support more night-time activity, now open 11am-11pm Tues-Sunday – so keep us in mind if you need a partner-in-crime sometime in the future.

All I can say is WOW! I just finished reading the Apartment E story and immediately it rang so true! I walked in one Friday and didn't know anyone.
I only hoped that the person who invited me would show so I wouldn't feel completely alone. I didn't even know her that well, but I had to hang onto something so I didn't turn around and walk away. But as I put the pieces together, this is where I should have been 10 years ago. Surrounding myself with people who are real. People who are willing to express themselves and allow me to express myself... and most importantly, in a position way, in a positive environment! I was asked, have you lived here long? I've lived here most of my life, but never ventured from the comfort of my closely knit circle. Why? Because I didn't know that anyone would understand what would crack my shell... what would bring me to a place I can't call comfort, but a place I want to call welcome. So here it is! I now know what Apartment E really is. More importantly, I know that Apartment E is exactly what is was designed to be. And I can't help but feel now that I know, Apartment E wouldn't be what it is without me. It is very excited and I am thankful that I have the opportunity to experience and be a part of experience through this creation called Apartment E!  What a life!
Thanks!

Dear friends, I just wanted to drop you a line and tell you that I've been thinking of you
and that I am so grateful that you are in my life.  It has been quite a summer and it seems
our days have been filled with reaching out, around the world, as we have many friends in
many places, thankfully.
This morning I have taken time to pray for more strength, more love, more will to
refill our beings with the human spirit we need in times of rebuilding.  We have been blessed
to play and sing and dance even in these days of suffering and I am so very thankful that
we have been near enough to touch.
Thank you for your friendship, it means so much to me.

Love,  Terri

please have a naked free dance for me....
and if there are tears then I will be relieved

Hello frankie -
It is always interesting to get a email from you.  My husband, Don Howard, is an artist
(check out    www.donhoward.com) and I guess that is how you got his name.  Zinnia is a friend of ours and possibly she gave his name to you.  We have never been able to get to your place, but I did forward in the past to my friend, Phyllis Mills, who told me later that she did come to one of your events.  Quite a while ago, I forwarded your email to a Sentinel newspaper reporter and told him that I thought you would be a good subject for a story ......but... I guess he didn't agree...
Keep up the good work and keep up your creativity.

Hey Frankie,
I'm just checking out what you're up to. You or someone with you must
have found me on myspace. It sounds like you're trying to do positive
things. I was wondering if you've checked out Dandelion Cafe yet? It's
on Thornton Ave, near Colonial (the block West of Colonial Photo &
Hobby). They're good people, trying to do good things as well-- maybe
you all could hook up for some events.

Cheers,

Hi Frankie,
Thanks for the kind thoughts. It's very nice of you and much appreciated. 13 years! That shows that this town is bigger than many people give it credit for. I moved up here from Ft.Myers in '93 and I'm ashamed to say I'm just hearing about Apartment E, but I'm happy that Orlando has you in its midst. We appear to have a number of mutual friends and acquaintances in our lives-- a very good sign that we'll get along just fine.

I have a couple of creative deadlines coming up (and I need to replace a part-time gig I'm losing) so things might be wacky for a few weeks but we should try to get together some time after that at Stardust, Dandelion, or some other place you might recommend.

Please keep me posted about your endeavors, Katie

You're great at reminding us Orlandians of the achievements we've seen and the achievements yet to come. In West Hollywood, CA yesterday, I met some Californians and other westerners who really take our efforts in Central FL to heart aand want us to succeed! (I attended an outdoor luxury living show on behalf of the Nehrling Garden Society near Gotha). We HAVE the natural wonders and the human resources and the know-how to put local artists on the map and it's happening because of people like YOU and Apartment E's fine legacy. See ya later when I get back, and by the way Happy Birthday!!!

Peace 'n' Love...;Rhoade

btw - I'm 64 & am basically just now thinking I'm in my mid-life ... and, that's how my other friends feel, too; we can't believe the time has gone and talk about how we can't really be this "old" (we don't feel it nor act it).

You are excellent. :)
I've been staying here with my sister and her family in Australia and it's weird.... anything that is not living surrounded by art and covered in paint just feels.... unfinished, bland.
I have started painting somewhat because I decided that I could not wait, even if I have no home of my own right now.... I thought I could wait till I got settled to get back into it but no, Life can not be lived any other way than to be true to one's soul and expression. It felt wrong not to be painting....I feel better now.
I miss the art community in Orlando very much.
Thanks for your beautiful letter.

Bye for now.

Frankie, thank you for sending this to me. It made my night; great insight. When my grandmother died, she left me all of the family photos. My ancestors had money, so I have over 100 years worth of orginal photos of family I never knew. I often pull these photos out and think about what my ancestors thought/ wished for/ etc. and that, sadly, I am likely the only one who owns any psychical image of them and that, when my time comes, will anyone think about these photos and the people they show or will they get tossed out. I guess these our my own graveyards that you talk about.

Victor Perez was talking to me about you the other day (says you have a great place). I do not really know you well, but have great respect for all that you do and your contributions to Orlando.

Thanks again.

My name is Kevin Cash. We met briefly at Jim Jackson's Art Gallery. I hope you remember me it seemed like you had quite a night. I gave you my email address on a cd. Im contacting you because I said I would and was quite intrigued by you and what you do. Not often do I come across someone who intrigued me as much as you did and after visiting your site I am quite impressed with what you do. You came off as a very straight forward honest person who really has a good grip of things which is hard to come by these days. After taking a look at your site im really interested in exactly what it is you do. I write music with some very talented friends of mine and we're putting a demo together right now and are getting ready to start playing shows. I also draw and my friends and I make movies and throw a lot of interesting ideas around. Id love to hear back from you with what you do and how we can help eachother out.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

It struck me on the ride home that you bring people two kinds of nourishment.  One for the body, food.  The other for the soul, your own special insight.  I'm sure some people realize it and some don't.  Judging by the number of your friends, many do realize it.  If I knew I could do that for people, maybe I'd be a waiter too.  Look forward to seeing you again and finding out about Joe's own special magic too.  Thanks,

Q. How can you improve the buying market for art?.

More awareness,….different and varied venues that are more or at least moderately upscale so you can reach that clientele (bring the art to the market rather than the market to the art)

Marketing not just to the art community, but to the community at large.

Pricing.  I can tell you Frankie,…I am not poor exactly, and have some dollars to spend on things like art.

However,…when you go to some of the local exhibitions and see artwork for exorbitant amounts, you think twice.  Very specifically I remember seeing a work that I truly liked, and in my mind, I was willing to spend up to  a couple of hundred for it,….knowing I might be priced out by it being closer to a thousand.  When I finally found out how much it was,..,it was multiple multiple thousands.  Yet I saw the same type of artwork at the Mt Dora festival for well under one thousand.

Prices must be driven by the market – and the market is not only the upscale galleries we do have in town.

Now, I am not saying price it for dorm rooms,…I am saying,….find out not just the “art market” down here, but the general consumer’s ability to pay (and by demographics that would be young, single professional or early married professional, with an average income)

Here is an idea I have always thought of, and wanted to produce myself.  An “Art Garage Sale” held once every quarter that would be very much advertised and publicized to the community at large.  Held in a warehouse, or similar venue.

Not necessarily a “festival” which has a different feel,…bring together artists from ALL over,….work with them to price accordingly for our market (this will take some research perhaps),…and then by doing so you might enlarge the want/taste for/purchasing of local artists work.  It’s a thought!  Do it around Christmas and you might see a surge in purchasing??????

John DiDonna

jdidonna@bellsouth.net

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frankie,

I don't live in Orlando anymore, and have access to a Downtown Art District with at least 6 blocks of wall-to-wall galleries. Adjacent to these 100+ galleries, is also about 4 blocks of wall-to-wall crafts and such. People are ready to be buyers when they come here.

Here's the basic problem as I saw it in Orlando, is that people go to "look"
at art, and that's fine, but in my mind, when they go to the Mount Dora Art Festival. They go there with the intention of buying. A significant perception difference is that this art is for sale! Additionally, the Mount Dora Art Festival has something going for it ,spring = snowbirds.
That "outreach" is beyond the art community, beyond the singles meat market community, and it brings in buyers.

Compare the casual art observer in the Central Florida area as contrasted to that in the I-Drive area. Those artists who do things like Cafe Tu Tango sell art, because the people coming there are already buyers.

I don't live in Orlando anymore. It causes me angst that out of $750,000 grant that recently went to the Orlando Downtown Art District, $250,000 was given to a consulting firm to see how art fits into the downtown art scene, and another $200,000 was given to a law firm, for whatever that was all about. And the rest, well, it still falls short of the money needed to invest in that building formerly called Oval.

So, how do you turn these negatives into a positive?

Recognize that the Downtown Art District is useless for the visual artists unless you are in that club and have a straw in the snow. It's now another adopted child catering to the "Performing Arts" venues, and subject to the umbrella of United Arts, and downtown Orlando is, as it was, A BAR DISTRICT.

Things can change, tattoo parlors could be wiped out and replaced with galleries, but there's so many problems with downtown for a casual buyer to get there, park, and walk around, that in the end, why bother? There isn't even an outreach to the major employers (what's left of them) in the downtown area.

Buyers?

What college student drinking beer is going plunk down $10,000 for a
painting? $3,000? Can they even do $1,000? So, in all probability, the
target market is $75 to maybe $750 in the Downtown Art District?

That absurdity of their target market is so laughable it makes me not angry.

In your mind, picture a retired person, a senior, and tell me why the hell they would come to any downtown art event? There has been no outreach to them, no mercy, and the status quo of the Downtown Art District has been historically, to appeal to a bar crawl.

Suggestion 1)
For a long-term outlook, re-look the Virginia Drive area as a Downtown Art District. By its’ very nature, the traffic in that area is there for antiques. It already has the buyer traffic and most importantly, "buyer mentality", intact. You would have to take this as an appeal to the people of Orlando with a vote of no-confidence, because the administration of the Orlando Downtown Art District has some pie in the sky idea about an Art Factory, and you can already see where that money has been spent, will be spent, and they will continue do as they've always done: work on their petty projects.

Do you realize what 10 artists could have done with $10,000 each to promote art in Central Florida? or 100 artists with $1,000 each? And that's still only a fraction of that grant. I was so far beyond furious at that misuse of funds that I can't even talk about.

Suggestion 2)
Coo the City of Sanford with Federal, State, etc., grant applications to manage the vacant properties in that ghost town as galleries and communal art centers / studios. And promote it from the get-go. That this is a place to come buy art. The foundation for that is already there.

.Problems- location : No matter what Sanford thinks of itself, it's off the beaten path. Seriously, who is going to drive from I-Drive, or even downtown Orlando to go to Sanford? Ouch! Their "Alive at 5" program excludes anyone beyond Heathrow because it means sitting in 2 hours of traffic to get there, or leaving at 3:30 pm to get ahead of the wave. Wrong direction to be on I-4, period.

Simple solution, do it on a Saturday or Sunday.

Suggestion 3)
I moved.

Suggestion 4)
Keep doing what your doing, and join forces with people that are trying to get things done, at any level. Settle your differences between the factions and take over. The City of Orlando is useless, except to reward the inept, or corrupt, but it will take credit for any successes on your part -- so, forget about them helping you, and plow on.

I'm probably a little rough on the Downtown Arts District, but knowing they paid somebody $80,000 yr to be Executive Director and their website contained only a "single" page, represents the boon-doggle of my frustration.

My aims are higher I guess.

I'm only writing you all this because I like you, and appreciated the efforts of people like you in the community. There are some, you know them, and they do try it does matter.

If you want any of the words, make them yours, not mine. I'd appreciate it if you kept this to yourself.

I no longer have a dog in this fight. Best wishes,

I am thankful you exist in my life.
You make Orlando gooood.

Love, Genevieve

to the staff of Impact,
I am sending this note to all of you to first of all thank you for making a huge impression on me in my life in Orlando. I moved here from New Orleans/ Hattiesburg, Ms. in August of 1993... I instantly fell in love with Orlando. Downtown Orlando. I searched far those things in town that were alternative, not so mainstram as I was raised up in knowing. I was for no better description a "County mouse" in a Rat Kingdom... I think I first came across "impact" on a night that I went to "Theatre Downtown" to see a play. I had never seen or read the type of material that was so "boldly" put into print. Shocked, provoked, but another great thing happened.. my small "media feed" brain  was given a jolt... I read opinions and saw only what I had heard about in my 25 something years of living in the South.. I read "the other side".. and it was liberating..  I saved that issue, still have it.... I have entire boxes of "Impact" and I am proud that I have kept this part of ORLANDO history for this many years...  for sure.. There will definantly be a "Tribute to Impact" ( a table , a collage ,an art piece) in my new venue "The Orlando Room"....
I also have been running a roving party celebrating local art and music for 13 years now.  called APARTMENT E.. I hope that some of you have heard of it.. The hard work that Impact has been is appreciated. I am saddened by the fact that you are not "giving voice" after this long, especially in these confusing times. (politically, socially, and morally)...
I thank you for the... (here I go).. "IMPACT" you have made on my life..
see.. you've merely announced your departure, and I already am lost for words...............

whatever evdeavors, causes or jobs all of you take on after this... will surely be "better" to have such introspective, on purpose, invividuals working with them or for their cause... You all,as far as I am concerned are the true "Leaders" of Orlando culture.... and the "Zine" bar will forever be raised because of "Impact".

I'll end this rambling with a simple "thank you" and hope you all are proud of the hard work and dedication you have done.. you are appeciated and I am thankful that our paths crossed...................................................,Frankie Messina

Australia and America

HEY MR PERFORMING ARTS
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU AND INSPIRED BY EVERYTHING YOU'RE BRINGING INTO THE WORLD.
you do realize this is bigger than Orlando.... you've got Australia and Sicily hooked into the grid and that's just the beginning...
could they have anyone else bring this town together for a festival? I don't think so...

Words of wisdom for the space...I have more... but so far...
"MAKE IT HAPPEN" (a catch cry from my soul traveling road trip of New Years
2002)
"when you love yourself the whole world smiles with you"
"BREATHE!!!! let the magic happen"
"NOW is YOUR MOMENT"
"give it to me baby"

All your work on the space makes me so wet - I've salivating just thinking of you sweating your love into the floorboards and walls. RED MAHOGANY floors and ELECTRIC BLUE - I want to eat YOU!

I want to know more about why you're scared about the move. Is it because you are turning it into the Artshouse and you're worried Frankie is going to disappear in a crack in the floor boards?
If somebody doesn't find you the coolest man on the planet soon I will have to marry you.

I'm feeling very toey at the moment - not sure if I'm going to behave - Sydney has too many ex lovers here for me to ignore and now all my paper work is done this girl is ready to play....but I think the boys just want to talk to me ...I think they actually respect me because I've got the balls to leave this country and follow my dream and not many women do that.

I'm starting to make some big financial plans as we'll be settling Dad's estate over the next year and I will come into a lot of property and have to plan wisely for my future - I'm so calm about it all. I've got a $1000 in my bank account and sitting on an amazing next! egg. The richest gypsy in MARSFIELD.
My neighbor parks their BMW in my driveway and people don't realize I've been a pedestrian crawling over the streets of America and shuttling around the world on a shoestring - makes me laugh really hard. But the BMW in my drive is a BIG SIGN - just wait and everything will happen...I like "MEANT TO BE" as another catch phrase....everything is falling into place Frankie and WE BOTH just have to accept it.

Even those elephants will fall into place - maybe they can start a new Halloween form of twister - crashing though ceilings - I think it's a great performance piece...

I know people appreciate you but they don't  know how to love you...remember Jesus Christ Superstar?
"I don't know how to love him. I don't know why he moves me. He's a man...he's just a man...he is not a king...he's just the same as anyone I know...he scares me so.....when he is cold and dead....will let me be...does he love me to....does he love me too...does he care for me?"

It's hard letting go but let the creative juices flow through and out into the world -we make the world turn...it's the juices of our souls Frankie that feed this planet KEEP LIGHTING UP THE WORLD MY LOVE many kisses and heartfelt hope Angela

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sydney needs you - bit of a crisis in the arts - people are scared and community is confused...Orlando is so simple in comparison and we learn to forgive each other there - people here hold grudges harder and I'm in the middle of some uncomfortable fueds between family, friends and ...but I'm staying positive.

Hey Frankie
I just want you to know that I believe in you so much...

When you get close to someone through your creative SOUL it is hard to let them go or share them with other people - its so rare to be understood on this level...
I still get chills when I think about how you made that screen explosion mix that captured my desires and created such magic for me to dance to - that's why I always wanted to return to you..you lit my fire!
And you still do...Just when your dreams come true - THE VENUE FALLS IN YOUR LAP...you will always be tested.

If someone touches you - you want to keep that touch forever. It's hard being commited to something that's bigger than yourself but we're hungry for your dream - ADREAMALIZED< ADREAMREALIZED THE DREAM IS REAL THANK YOU for being my friend and holding the faith in me even when I disappear onto the other side of the planet.
I want to start doing DREAM REALIZATION PLAY-SHOPS at the new place.
Working with visualization to strengthen your connection to your dreams!
You're stronger than you realize
I love you but it's more than that - I FEEL YA BROTHER

Hey, Frankie, Stuart Hall, guitar player from SusieCool's band here.

Congrats on keeping your wits about you in a tough situation.  I must confess...when faced with the sound from the other stage, it seemed insurmountable.  Add the lateness of the audio crew & gear to that & I don't see how you weren't tearing your hair out!  But you didn't, and I credit you for it.

You did a fine job of putting together a nice roster and presenting it.  It's so unfortunate about the sound stuff, but, sometimes stuff is just out of your hands.  The audio seemed to come together a bit for us, anyway, and the other stage was quiet during our set (woo-hoo!!!).  It as unfortunate that, even though Susie & Vick had told them weeks ago & we reminded them 90 minutes before our set of our audio needs, they didn't get it together at that point!  Such is life sometimes, I guess.

Audio oftentimes can make or break a show.  I'm hoping that the rest of the day sounded good for you, the performers, and the audience!

Stuart

I was referred to this website by a friend of yours, Eric Reynolds, whom I met at Sam Ash today. I am very much into photography and painting for the most part so he thought it would be of interest for me to make your acquaintance. Feel free to email me. You have a great website, and I’ll be sure to stop by again sometime.

 Frankie,
Just want to let you know that I read this vey intriging experience and history of Apartment E
and the very deep thought resulting in so many positive upswings --- sort of reminds you of King Solomon and the fact that although he did have all of the material things that he wanted (wine, women, sex, and money) that he still wasn't happy until he searched deep within and found SELF, as created by God for HIS kingdom.

A very interesting and thought provoking testimonial! I am glad that you have been able to search deep within and discover the true spirit and heart of the great unique man and creation named Frankie Messina!

Love,
